.270 or .30-06 whats best for medium pigs and deer?

Currrently own a 25-06 and looking for something the next step up What cals should I look at? Dont want something with heaps of recoil..270 or .30-06 whats best for medium pigs and deer?
The 30-06 because you have a greater variety of bullet weights to choose from with the 30-06.* It will harvest any Game in North America cleanly %26amp; efficiently.* The recoil is manageable %26amp; moderate.*.270 or .30-06 whats best for medium pigs and deer?
.25-06 is so similar to .270, that there is no reason to switch, unless you're just looking for a reason to get a new gun. .30-06 would be a step up, allowing you to take bigger game if you wanted to. The .30-06 would also have more recoil than your .25-06.

The .25-06 has a flatter trajectory than the .30-06, and is perfectly suited for pigs and deer. Unless you want to take bigger game, I would stick with what you've got.

Shotguns aside, I only use 2 calibers regularly for hunting. .270 Winchester and .375 H%26amp;H magnum. Between those two, I can hunt any game imaginable.
The .308 and 30*06 kick like a mule compared to your quarter bore. They both have massive power at the muzzle, but by 300 yards they have lost a lot of energy. The 270, 6.5x55, or 7mm=08 maintain speed and power better and will do the trick for you better at ranges over 200 or 250 yards. Of the three I tend to favor the 6.5x55 for several reasons, not unlike your own stated objectives. It's up to anything the other 2 can do up close, and downrange where it really counts, the heavy little .264 bullet is a flat shooting powerhouse. One shot instant kills are quite ordinary with this round. The most killing power and accuracy, and the least recoil and blast makes this round my choice for hunting for years. I hunt big game and need no other rifle. Good luck choosing a rifle, and happy hunting. J
What you have is sufficient for what you are hunting.

I would suggest you skip the .270 and go to the 30-06 because then, with the proper cartridges, you have enough weapon for ANY North American game animal.

MOST 30-06 do NOT recoil that hard unless they are real lightweights.

You could also go to .308 which has almost the same power, but IS a little more limited in available loads, and a bit lighter on recoil.

I have a 25-06 and I reload its plenty of gun for what your doing but if you want another round with not alot of recoil the 7mm-08 gives you the pleasure of a 7mm bullet in a 308 case with the 7mm bullet you can go to a 140 grain nosler partition and smoke hogs at 200 plus yards no problem and still have the kick of 25-06 this would be what I would buy if I wanted something larger than a 120 grain 25-06 with out self abuse ..Also federal ammunition website has a ballistics chart for what ammo to use on different game at the bottom of the home page it says rifle load recommendation click on it and choose 7mm-o8 and it will tell you more ...
Get a .308. It is close enough to .30-06 power to call it equal, and if you reload you might get better than .30-06 power with a .308. The .308 is also more accurate than almost every other caliber, and doesn't kick nearly as much as a .30-06.

I have 6 rifles that shoot the .308, and last week I killed a 4 point whitetail buck with my .308 Ruger model 77.
OK Time for the smart **** answer because the 270 vs 30-06 topic has been done to death on here.

Technically the ';Next Step Up'; is 260Rem (.264';Cal or 6.5mm)

If it was me, .270 would be the choice cuz its a bit faster and flatter than the 30-06 and I really cant pick the difference in reciol between the two.
I suggest the .270..... I use the .308 because I do a variety of things with my rifles like target shoot and hunt so it suits me...... BUT for just deer and medium hogs the .270 is the best choice.....

Consider the Remington 700 in .270.....

As you can see here the .270 has well over 1000 foot pounds of force at 400 yards so for white tail deer its perfect....

If you really want more bang then go to the .308.... The 30-06 is too much....

Eh, 30-06 is time tested, but it kicks the s*** outta most people. If you don't want recoil I prefer the .270.

The 30-06 is great for a large selection of bullet weights.
Keep the 25-06 man!!! get a tactical stock with a full length aluminum block and a free floating barrel, triger adj., and leupold optics mark 4.....Let me tell you I caint even explain!!! 0.25 groups at 100 yards if your shootin a rem 700
30-06 Best hunting cartridge you can use for taking any game in North America PERIOD!
.270 would be a small ';step up'; without a great deal of recoil increase
270.
270. win for sure
