It's the opening lines from the 42nd Psalm, and King David supposedly fashioned them.
The Latin ';tag'; for this psalm is ';Sicut cervus.'; There have been many settings, I'm sure, but the one by Palestrina is done a lot.
There's also a gorgeous setting by Herbert Howells called ';Like as the hart.';Pls does anyone know who wrote or sang this song, but here are some lines ';as the deer panteth for the water';?
It's from Psalms 42, so I'm not really sure who wrote it. Lots of people have used it in song over the centuries.
