There's a baby deer in my yard! It's been lying out there all by itself all day today. He's so little he's a newborn. I don't want it to die. All i have is a water bottle, powder milk, and regular milk. Should I feed it with that? I know he's starving.
There's no Animal Control in my town. Just a pound, so I called them but I just got their answering machine and I think they're closed! I honestly don't think the baby deer's gonna make it through the night! What should I do?!?!HELP!!! I need to know what to do with this baby deer!!!?
Call in the fish/game specialist thats neaest... even if they're a few towns away. Or the closest zoo... and they can give you a number to call.
If you haven't touched it yet... Don't!! at least until after dark. Deer will often wait until the dusk hours to come for their young. Watch, wait, and see. If full darkness falls and still no mom... then take the actions that the others have suggested.HELP!!! I need to know what to do with this baby deer!!!?
Call the police or sheriff's department (not 911) and ask them who to call in your area (parks and wildlife, game warden?). I would say to call a veterinarian, but they are probably all closed today.
Watch out of site for several hours and see if the mother comes around. If not, bring him in and get some goat milk or milk replacer to feed him. Do NOT feed cows milk in any form as this will make him sick. Try get a hold of a nearby rehab center, maybe a town or two over even to see if they can come get him, as that's his best bet. Most baby mamals need feeding every couple hours, through the night as well, so expect very little sleep til he weans if you raise him. Good luck
you need to call your local dnr or fish and game.At least call your local police department and ask there advice, this is a wild animal and you should try to leave it to the professionals.
Call game and fish dept., call the sheriff's office, and call the park service department. Law enforcement agencies have the contact information for wildlife agencies. Be persistent.
DO NOT TOUCH IT. if you do and the mother comes back, and smells you on her baby, she may abandon it. then it really will have a problem. leave it be till morning, then call fish and wildlife and they will take care of it,
feed him baby formula in a baby botle , go to walmart get parents choice its cheap, help this poor animal
Deer often leave their fawns alone all day in the brush where they will be safe. Stay away from it and wait to see if the mother comes later this evening. If not, then you need to get ahold of the nearest wildlfe rehabilitater to you. He or she will be able to tell you what to do.
If you can get ahold of some goats milk, use it. It's more digestible to baby's. use an eye dropper and give little amounts of warm milk every two hours. Keep the baby warm. God bless.
Unless you know the mother is dead, I'd leave it for now. The mother will often leave the fawn in a safe area for extended periods of time. So leave it alone for the time being, come tomorrow if the mother has not returned, you need to contact someone who can help you.
LEAVE IT ALONE!!!!! Mother deer hide their fawns all day while they are tiny while they go %26amp; russle up dinner. THe baby will stay their still as it can to try and hide. HE'S FINE!!!!
If you must do something call a wildlife rehabilitator or the game commision. (They will likely give you the same advice)
PS if you go go up to it make a lotta noise on the way - bet he outruns you...
Look in the yellow pages for animal/critter control businesses, which are different than County or City Animal Control. See what they have to say. You might be able to reach someone that runs a business like that, even though it's a Sunday.
I think that attempting to handle the animal yourself is a singularly bad idea.
you may want to bring it in and keep in warm, maybe put a heating pad under a blanket, i would personally make it some powder milk and you can try a water bottle, that may be to fast of a drink for him but you can try it, have you been close enough to it to make sure its not harmed or sick in anyway, have you seen the mother nearby? The mother may have left it there, because they wont take care of it if something is wrong with it, so be careful. Has it been walking or just laying there? Please let me know what you find out or what you try with the baby. Good luck
I agree leave him alone if he is in shrubs or tall grass his mother has left him for safety.. she is not far away. if he is in the open call your police station they will send a wildlife rehab agent immediately. It is illegal in most states to raise a baby deer.
Ok... if you don't have an animal control in your town, then maybe there is one in another town close to you. You should maybe call the wildlife control place and ask them what you should do. But call someone that is in another town close to you. When you do that, they will instruct you for what to do with the deer. And I'm sure they will probably pick up the animal. If you don't know of an animal or wildlife control near you, then call the operator and his him/her about a control center near you. Good luck!
ok, go outside and make sure you slowly walk up to him and you can pick him up. take him inside and wrap a blanket around him. you cant feed it just regular milk so you're going to have to watch the little guy untill the morning and you can call the vet, i think he should be able to make it through the night.
