i Have a stand and a feeder and i have no deer whatsoever. my neighbor has at least 30 every night . how do i get them to come to me?My neighbor wont let me hunt on his land so i need to lure them toward me. what is wrong? why don't i have deer?My neighbor has at least 30 deer every night but my stand has none? We are less than 1/4 mile from each other.?
If he has been feeding the deer longer then you have, he may have them concentrated in his area. If that is not it, then it is one of three things deer need that is not present in your area, and all three is present in your neighbors area. Deer must have security cover, deer must have food, and deer must have water. If your area has these 3 things for deer, then you should have them also. If you do have these 3 things, then the most logical reason is that your neighbor fed all summer and concentrated the deer on his spot, and you started feeding a few weeks before hunting season. My neighbor has at least 30 deer every night but my stand has none? We are less than 1/4 mile from each other.?
I'm just guessing, but have you heard of ';sweet feed';? It's an assortment of rolled Maize, wheat, and what-have-you topped with molasses. It's messy to handle, but you get to lick your hands clean! Deer become carnivores to get at it. I wonder if your neighbor knows about it? They sell it cheap at ';real'; feed stores, for training livestock pretty much any way you want. Comatose dying cattle can be resuscitated by holding a handful under their noses! Cattle will smash through walls to get at it, so be careful! Also, it will gum up your feeder, so use a separate little tub for it, and maybe make a modest teaser trail of it from a known deer trail to your ';area';, where you put some out usually, but not totally consistently, as partial reinforcement is the strongest training, since it can't be taken for granted. Regards, Larry.
It could be for several reasons. The area your neighbor's stand is located in might offer the deer more concealment giving them a better sense of security.
The land there might have food on it that they prefer to eat.
Where your stand is located might have plants around it that are a natural deer repellent.
(As strange as that sounds, it's true that deer don't like the smell of certain plants and stores even sell these to people to plant around their gardens to keep deer away from them).
Good luck -
Pretty much what everyone else said. You have to give the deer a reason OTHER than just food. Try planting a patch of switchgrass that gives them a place of security to walk thru or even bed down in. Do you have any water sources? Do you have free roaming dogs or have you spotted any other predatory animals in your area?
Now here's a little tip for ya.....do you have any local apple orchards? Talk to em about raking up apples that have fallen on the ground, they will usually sell ya a truck full for a few bucks. Deer love rotten apples and the smell travels all around. This might be enough to lure em over to your side on occasion.
he has identified a path deer use year round and is capitolizing on it
Sounds like he set his up on the trail and you didn't.
Set up somewhere else.* Move.* Change your location.*
