Advice on weimaraner chasing deer?

We've put in an electric fence, done training-she still goes right thru the fence to chase deer. Has anyone heard of the remedy of putting some type of strong scent (deer) on the dog, and leaving it there for awhile, until it is no longer interesting? I've heard from several people, but nobody seems to know the exact way to do this. Sounds a little gross-but I'll try anything. I adopted the weim from a shelter, and honestly, I know it was my fault for not researching enough, but nobody told me that these dogs will run themselves to the death chasing something. Other than the deer thing she is really a good dog. HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Advice on weimaraner chasing deer?

To add to your frustration tho I walk my 2 german shepherds on the horse trails at an 1100 acre park that's close-by daily.There are deer everywhere and they're so used to seeing people that they just stand still and watch us walk by.Evan with very young deer at their side.My dogs just walk by without notice evan tho deer is only 10ft.off trail.But if deer moves the chase is on!They never go far from my side.But sometimes I have to call them back more than once.And they have to smell everything twice on their way back which is annoying but understandable.I just hate it when they chase after a mom and baby.I don't want it to grow up having fear of people and dogs will soon be associated with a person hoping to enjoy the deer sighting.So was looking for useful info to break my dogs from bolting after them.Did'nt find it.Good luck tho.Advice on weimaraner chasing deer?
Throw out the stupid electric fence, they do not work for many dogs, and put up a real fence. If you can't do this, then chain your dog. Loose dogs are nothing but trouble for him as well as for me and my dogs. I HATE roaming dogs! Confine him. It is the responsible thing to do.





The scent thing will not work, he will still see them and chase them.
I would suggest keeping your dog on a leash (not to sound rude) but in many states, your dog can be shot on sight if caught chasing a deer. Not only is deer chasing potentially deadly for your dog (if it's shot), but if it were to happen in the wintertime, it would be death for the deer who are using up stored energy by running away.





I would also highly recommend some obedience training for your dog as well.
Do not let the dog out unless it is on a leash. That will solve the problem. You either have to keep on with the leash, or put up a regular fence.
I don't know much about that breed but have had lots of dogs. Dogs chase, dig and usually do what we don't want them to do.Maybe you can look into a product that I have heard of that is buried into the ground and the dog wears a collar when going pass the the buried sensor she gets a big shock? You know you may never break her of it, does she come home? Perhaps you will have to get a dog run to keep her in outside, sad.
