Can .22 rifle kill a deer with a head shot i don't think so but my friend does?

it can be done, but it is not legal in Ohio.Can .22 rifle kill a deer with a head shot i don't think so but my friend does?
Provided you hit the deer's head just right, yes a .22 LR will kill a deer. Does that mean its legal to use a .22 LR on deer, no. Does that mean its a good idea to use it on deer, no.

As for the .22 Centerfires, every time someone asks about using them on deer, there is always a huge controversy and argument. Regardless of that, a .22 centerfire can kill deer with a head-shot. Does that mean it is legal to use it to hunt deer, depends on your state. Does that mean its a good idea... Most people rightly consider them to be too light to use on deer. (Varmint bullets are designed to expand extremely quickly and not penetrate deeply. As a result with anything less than a perfect broadside shot (such as a quartering where they have to punch through the shoulder), they won't penetrate deeply enough to reach vital organs. Since you can't guarantee a perfect shot when hunting bet you can guess where I stand on the debate.Can .22 rifle kill a deer with a head shot i don't think so but my friend does?
Forget about it, very bad idea, and against the Game Laws.* Nine (9*)times out of Ten (10*) you will end up crippling, and wounding the Deer.* It is unethical and immoral to try to shoot a Deer with a 22 Long Rifle caliber gun.* Never ever attempt to shoot a Deer in the head or neck, always aim and hit it in the Heart and Lung area Only regardless of what Caliber Rifle you are using.*
yess it depends cal. dtands for In firearms, the caliber is the approximate diameter of the bullet used. In a rifled barrel, the distance is measured between opposing lands or grooves; groove measurements are common in cartridge designations originating in the United States, while land measurements are more common elsewhere. This is very important when handloading, as the bullet should closely match the groove diameter of the barrel to ensure a good seal.

When the barrel diameter is given in inches, the abbreviation ';cal'; is used in place of ';inches.'; For example, a (small bore) rifle with a diameter of 0.22 inch is a .22 cal; however, the decimal point is generally dropped when spoken, making it ';twenty-two caliber.';

Calibers of weapons can be referred to in millimeters, as in a ';caliber of eighty-eight millimeters'; (88 mm) or ';a hundred and five-millimeter caliber gun'; (often abbreviated as ';105 mm gun';).

While modern cartridges and cartridge firearms are generally referred to by the cartridge name, they are still lumped together based on bore diameter. For example, a firearm might be described as a .30 caliber rifle, which could be any of a wide range of cartridges using a roughly .30 inch projectile; or a .22 rimfire, referring to any rimfire cartridge using a .22 caliber projectile.

so yes it could
Yes, it can. It can also kill them with a heart and lung shot.

In all states it is illegal to shoot deer with a .22

I have heard of more poaching done with a .22 than with any other caliber. It is a shame because I suspect a large amount of animals are wounded.

So yes it can, but it is unethical, illegal, and may I add stupid to do so.
it can be done, but it's illegal.

jiggajea6 is wrong.

they said ';A .22 is legal for deer hunting but any thing smaller than that is illegal, such as a .218 bee, 204 ruger, or a 17 HMR.';

a 22 is not legal for deer hunting because it will not kill the deer quickly.

a .223 is the smallest caliber you can use to hunt deer with.

but that's for Georgia..
A 22 long rifle has killed many deer over the years. Lots of them with a single shot. This is not to say that it is a good idea! In fact it is not legal anywhere I know of to shoot deer with rimfire 22s. In the hands of an expert it will feed you if needed, but if you aren't snowed in somewhere I would recommend against shooting deer with any 22, even the ';big'; center fire 22s. Just not enough gun. J
can it? yes. Will it? depends on how ';dead on'; he shot was, by comparison, i have seen a cow shot in the head with a sks at less then 10 feet and not die....its not ethical and most likely not legal.

EDIT

I want to add that a centerfire of .22 cal and larger is legal in wi to hunt deer.
Yes but it is not legal in any State of the Union. Nor is it ethical to shoot a deer with a sub-caliber. The .243 Winchester is the minimal deer hunting caliber.

H
A 22 has a hard time killing a raccoon humanly at any distance

The only way you are killing a deer is with a dead on eye shot or by putting the gun to it's head
yes but it is not legal in any state to use a 22 rimfire for deer hunting.....ever here of poaching?........that is what you will be charged with if you get caught
yes it will, but it could easily ricochet off of the deer's skull

and country girl, .22 centerfire's are legal
If you are good enough to put a round in the ear--but please don't try. It's illegal in most states.
They're a long-time favorite of poachers. Of course, no ethical hunter would dream of trying it.
why would you? yeah it can kill it but come on man.
Yes
Yes of course. shoots anything in the right spot with a .22 and it will die
sure it can it depends from what range your shooting....
Ive seen it done many times. A .22 is legal for deer hunting but any thing smaller than that is illegal, such as a .218 bee, 204 ruger, or a 17 HMR.
dam rite!!
