Is a 4.5-14x50 Leupold VX-III series too strong for deer hunting in Tennessee?

All depends on where you're hunting and the gun you're putting the scope on. For a .30-06, no - gives you a wide range of magnification. For a .30-30 woods gun, definitely too big a scope. Is a 4.5-14x50 Leupold VX-III series too strong for deer hunting in Tennessee?
I would say a little bit, I hunt in Georgia, one of my guns has that exact scope on it. It is great when I hunt the big field or the power lines, but if your hunting in the woods it doesn't let a whole lot of light in and makes it very hard to pick deer up in low light situations. Best of luck this year!Is a 4.5-14x50 Leupold VX-III series too strong for deer hunting in Tennessee?
Deer in TN are small, but not that small. If you want a VariX III, a great scope, you'll find 1.75-6x is plenty for your purposes.
