Seasonal Deer Plot Advice?

Well, deer season's coming up, usually I stalk hunt, never feeder hunt. I've been doing wildlife mangagment at school, and kind of like the idea of trying a feed plot.

I know its late to start season starts 3 Nov 07. But do y`all think it could be done with results this season.

I'm planning on chisiling a 1 acre plot and broadcastng seed. I have a ';deer forage mix'; which states to be fast germinating.

Any other ideas for plants? wheat maybe?

I'm not necessarily doing this to hunt off of, but more as an experiment to see if these plots really attract the deer.

Are there also mineral supplements/blocks that could be tried in conjunction with the field. The field is situated bordered by a creek, and heavy mesquite, with a cedar elm mott, so there is a pretty good edge effect, and I've seen trails here often before. Should I try this, or am I just screwing up a good situation? Any helpful advice would be greatly appreciated.Seasonal Deer Plot Advice?
We started planting food plots 3 years ago, our season (bow) starts this week end, we've had extremely good luck with white tail clover, it's kind of pricey but is already inoculated, and a little goes a long way. We have also had good luck with Winter peas, but they need to be inoculated also. For the spring plots sorghum and beans go fast! We also feed high protein corn gluten in feeders until the season begins, to encourage antler growth and healthy fawns.

It's not too late for a clover, rye or winter wheat plot, they may produce b/f your season begins, the clover will grow within days of the first watering, and they love it! Your forage mix probably has some oats, rye and winter wheat, go ahead and plant this, worse Case sprinkle some clover over it to create a root base and to give them something to nibble on until the rest grows. It's been really dry here so our fields were really late too! Good Luck!
