Deer like acorns, that seems to be one of their favorite foods.
Typically, sweet and/or salty fruit and vegetables are preferred by deer. Avoid anything acidic (citrus, tomatoes, etc.)
If you are baiting to hunt, make sure it's legal. Some states allow it, some don't and some mix it up a bit and allow it during certain times, but not others.
If you are baiting but not hunting (getting pics only, or some such thing), I don't think there is anything wrong in any state for that, unless you are trying to get hunters busted for hunting baited areas, in which case, you may be subject to legal actions that exceed what the hunter faces (hunters can only be charged of hunting baited animals if they know the area is baited, or reasonably suspect it)Would deer eat onions if i was to use them as bait?
Depending on your state, baiting deer may be illegal.
I believe Apples or Salt might work better here. I think for what you want, a commercial lure for sexual activity and not food might work better. You can buy doe urine, and I think that will work better. In my particular area, a more effective method (and more legal) is to take a set of deer antlers, and dig up the area around a deer scrape. Another method is to purchase a camera that takes a picture of the deer trail. It attaches to the tree and automatically goes off, letting you know if there is deer activity. Most deer are creatures of habit and go by the same place twice a day. Baiting deer in my jurisdiction at least will get the attention of the forest ranger (who act as game wardens here in
California). To me the forest is impenetrable, but to them, it's like another aisle at K-Mart, and they always seem to know what is going on.
I dont know of anyone or animal who would eat a raw onion.... dont use onions as bait.... get a bag of apples and you will do alot better.
Deer don't care for onions, but I like onions with my deer.
